Chapter 22
(Alternatively known as "The 'Legendary' Trainer: The Path of the Guardian~ Epilogue")

Jessica had another strange dream, that night.

It was a scenery of a beautiful lake surrounded by forest. A very tall Pokemon standing there by the shore of the lake. It's colors were gray, black, red, and yellow. And it stood about fourteen-feet tall. After a while of the Pokemon standing there, it looked off towards the woods. Like something had caught it's attention. After a while of staring, the Pokemon then looked back down at the waters of the lake.

A strange portal seemed to open and the Pokemon stepped into it. As the Pokemon passed through the portal, The scenery seemed to become distorted before it revealed a strange realm. The Pokemon changed, then. Suddenly taller, and now looking more like a serpent. The moment it was inside this altered realm, the Pokemon looked right at Jessica.

The Pokemon stared at her for a long while. Then, slowly, the now serpent-like Pokemon floated off away from her. Jessica's vision blackened until she couldn't see anything, anymore.

"Did you dream, at all, last night?" Red asked as they took their final boat ride towards Lightning Island.

Jessica nodded as she focused on their course of destination. "Yeah," she assured him. She shrugged her shoulders. "It just didn't bother me all that much. It was strange, yes, but it wasn't so strange that it bothered me. I guess it gave me a sense that the Pokemon was safe. Unlike all the others."

"Huh," was all Red said as he looked towards their destination. Even though he didn't show it, his Pikachu could feel the uneasiness he was feeling.

Once they reached the shore of the island, Red tied the boat down. However, when Jessica jumped out of the boat, Red did not follow. Jessica blinked when she didn't hear Red get out of the boat and turned to look at him. Her eyes glittering with puzzlement.

"Aren't you coming, Red?" she asked as she looked up at him.

"I think it would be best for me to stay here on the boat while you go and do your thing," Red informed her. "I don't want the Pokemon trying to attack me, again..."

Jessica smiled softly as she placed her hand on her hip. Cocking an eyebrow as she looked up at him. "You're still bothered about that incident?" she demanded. "I was there to make sure that it didn't happen. And I'm still here, now."

"I'll just feel a lot better if I waited here on the boat while you went off and did your thing," he told her.

Jessica sighed as she slouched her head comically. "Okay," She said as she lifted her head and turned away from him. Waving once behind her as she walked away. "I'll be back when I'm done."

Red nodded as he watched her walk off. "...Good idea," he mumbled as he watched her leave.

The walk up the large mountainous island was fairly difficult. It wasn't as bad as it was to clime Ice Island. But the constant storm-like winds were making the walk difficult to see and breathe. It was again midday by the time Jessica reached the Electric Pokemon shrine. Around the area where the shrine was located, the rocks looked as if they were glowing blue from the electric charge that seemed to lift some of the rocks off of the ground.

Jessica looked around as she walked closer to the shrine. "Zapdos! I know you're there! You can stop hiding!"

Nothing happened.

"I'm you're Guardian, Zapdos!" Jessica continued to shout as she continued looking around. "You don't have to hide from me and pretend you aren't there!"

Still nothing happened.

Jessica glared at the scenery around her. She then turned her gaze to the shrine. "Fine," she said in a much quieter voice. "If you want to be stubborn, I'll be stubborn, too."

Jessica walked over to the shrine and bent forwards. Wrapping her fingers around the cool glass of the yellow orb that rested in the carving's mouth. The instant she grabbed hold of the sphere, the large Electric Pokemon landed on its shrine. Zapdos glared down at Jessica as she looked up at the bird.

"Now that I have your attention," Jessica said as she slowly released the yellow sphere. "I have a question to ask you, Zapdos."

"And you try to take my treasure just so you can ask me a simple question?" The feminine voice demanded as the Zapdos continued to glare at her.

"To get you to come out of hiding so that way we could talk face-to-face over the proposition I'm going to present you with," she explained, "I'll go to any length to get that."

"Speak, then," the Zapdos ordered as it looked down at her.

"As I shouted before, I am the Guardian," Jessica began as she gestured to herself. "I came here to ask you if you would allow me to bring you with me on my travels to make sure you stay safe. I have created a special type of Poke Ball for me to be able to transport you more easily without anyone else knowing that you are with me. You will not be tied to me in any way. And if you agree to accompany me, I will promise to keep this place a secret so no one bothers your family and I will only call on you for Pokemon battles if it is absolutely necessary."

"You could have just asked this before you went to grab my treasure, Guardian," Zapdos claimed as she looked at her. "I do not have a problem with accompanying you. As for keeping this place a secret, you don't have to. My family can take care of themselves just fine. We are not like the other two."

Jessica smiled as she looked at the Zapdos. "That was a bit easier than the other two," she said as she reached into her bag for a Legend Ball. "I was expecting more of an argument from you."

Jessica held out the Legend Ball towards Zapdos. Zapdos reached down and pressed her beak against the button, going inside the Legend Ball. The button flashed red for a second before it subsided. The ball not even shaking in her hand. Jessica returned the ball to her back and then proceeded to descend back to Red and the boat they had rented. The moment she got in the boat, Red untied the boat from the rock and they made their way to Shamouti Island. It was close to nightfall by the time they got back.

Jessica and Red returned the boat to Flanery's father and gave him back the rental keys. They then made their way to Flanery's house and informed her that they wouldn't be staying for that night.

"Oh! But you have to stay at least for the final day of the festival!" Flanery practically protested.

Red and Jessica both looked at Flanery with confusion as they both said, "Festival?"

"The Pokemon Legend Festival!" Flanery told them. "Today is the final day, and you at least need to stay for a few hours to enjoy it! Besides, everyone would enjoy seeing the famous Legendary Trainer at the festival!"

Jessica slouched her head. "You all know about that in a place like this?" she demanded.

Flanery nodded as she looked at her. "Will you please stay?"

Jessica looked back to Red. Red looked at her with bewilderment. After a few minutes of looking at Red, Jessica returned her gaze to Flanery. "But...we didn't bring any kind of formal dress for the occasion."

"Oh, Red's fine the way he is," Flanery said as she waved her hand towards Red, "but we have something that you can wear. Unlike the mainland, we don't focus on kimonos. We're a tropical island. We'd sweat to death in kimonos."

Flanery than rushed up to Jessica and grabbed her hand. "Come on," she ordered before she raced up the stairs. Towing Jessica behind her.

Red blinked as his gaze followed the two girls up the stairs. Melody stepped closer to Red as she pretended to examine her nails.

"So your girlfriend is the Legendary Trainer, huh?" Melody asked as she kept her gaze on her nails.

Red's face instantly turned beat read as he looked at Melody with astonishment. "W-what!?" he asked in an embarrassed tone.

Melody glanced up at him as she smirked. "Way to catch a big one, tiger."

"S-she's not my girlfriend!" Red explained as he looked down to the floor. His eyes still wide as his face flushed even deeper.

"Why does your face tell me otherwise?" Melody asked as she walked away from him.

"Because you asked a question that caught me off guard!" Red informed her as he turned away from her. Grabbing the bill of his hat and pulled it down over his eyes as he faced the floor.

"Flanery..." Jessica trailed off as she looked at her reflection in the mirror. Her face flushed a soft pink as she looked at herself in the mirror.

"Yes, Jessica?" Flanery asked from the other side of the door.

"Is this really something I'm supposed to wear?" Jessica demanded as she turned this way and that. Feeling uncomfortable.

"It's what all the girls wear," Flanery told her. "Granted, not all of them look exactly like that one. Some are different colors, others are a completely different design. But, in general, we all wear an outfit like that one. Are you decent? Can I come in and have a look?"

"I'm as decent as I can get it," Jessica mumbled as she looked at herself. The white top resembling a strapless bathing suit top, wearing a long white skirt that was cut from the center of her thigh down the length of the skirt on her left side. The bamboo head dress having a white veil attached to it and running down her back. The only part of her outfit that was black was her choker that she refused to take off.

Jessica hated how she looked in white...but this was too revealing for her comfort zone.

Flanery stepped into the room and looked at Jessica through a crack in the door before she walked into the room and smiled at her. "You look amazing," she told her as she looked at her. "I'll tell you what, you can have this outfit."

Jessica looked up at Flanery as she arched an eyebrow. "Really?" she asked in disbelief.

Flanery nodded as she looked at her. "Yes. Melody is never going to wear it."

This is Melody's? Jessica thought as she looked back at her reflection.

"Come on," Flanery said as she grabbed Jessica's hand. "Let's go show your friend."

"Ahhh," Jessica exclaimed as she looked at Flanery. Her expression suddenly super uncomfortable as she was dragged back down the stairs to show Red her suddenly new outfit.

The instant Jessica walked into the room, Jessica saw that Red was facing towards the door of Flanery's house. Jessica blinked as she looked at him. Melody's sudden whistle made Jessica's cheeks get hot as Red turned his head to look at Melody. Glaring at her. However, the moment he saw that Melody's eyes were looking somewhere else, he followed her gaze right to Jessica.

The moment that Red's gaze fell on Jessica and her outfit, his eyes instantly widened as he stood there in aww. Thunder even gawked at her as he looked at his Trainer. Jessica wanted to dig a very deep hole - Maybe 20 feet is a good depth... - and crawl in it. She already felt uncomfortable being in the outfit. The fact that she was going to be walking out in public in the outfit was even more embarrassing and uncomfortable.

Melody rose her hand in the air. "Question for the girl wearing the outfit I'm never going to," she chimed in as she looked at Jessica.

Jessica looked over at Melody with an annoyed expression. "What?"

"Why wear the choker?" Melody inquired as she brought her arm down and pointed to the choker on her neck. "It doesn't really go with the outfit if you aren't wearing any other black material."

"She does have a point," Flanery said as she looked at Jessica's choker. "Here, I'll hold onto it so nothing-"

"Touch the choker and I'll break your hand," Jessica threatened as her hands quickly went to her neck. Holding the choker closer to her neck without choking herself. Stepping away from Flanery's outstretched hand. "I have a scar on my neck that I don't want to show anyone. Besides, it's where my Poke Balls go when I carry them on my person."

Flanery blinked as she looked at Jessica. "...Okay," she said as she brought her hand down. "You didn't have to threaten. If you had just said so I would have understood."

"Well, let's go and enjoy the festival, then," Melody said as she rose to her feet.

Red didn't stop staring at Jessica until they were on their way out the door.

"Excuse me, everyone!" an elderly man called out to everyone that was gathered under the large pavilion on the stage. Everyone turning their heads to look at him. "I received a message from a friend of mine, just a few minutes ago. He told me that I should call up someone who he called the 'Heavenly Rose' and have her sing for us during this special occasion."

Jessica's eyes widened as her face became beat red. Does Mr. Fuji really have friends all the way out here?

"Is this 'Heavenly Rose' here?" the elderly man continued. "He informed me that she was."

Very slowly, Jessica rose to her feet. Everyone gasped as they all watched her stand up. At first, her steps were very slow as she walked towards the stage. However, as she walked, her steps became more and more quick. Wanting to get it done and over with. She already felt super uncomfortable in the outfit she was wearing. Now she had to sing in front of hundreds of people in the said outfit that made her uncomfortable.

She took the microphone from the man and then whispered the song she was going to sing in his ear. The elderly man nodded after hearing her request and started playing the music. At the exact moment the music started playing Jessica started singing.

Tick tock, hear the clock countdown
Wish the minute hand could be rewound
So much to do and so much I need to say
Will tomorrow be too late?

Feel the moment slip into the past
Like sand through an hourglass
In the madness, I guess, I just forget
To do all the things I said

Red smiled as he watched Jessica sing. It had been a while since he last heard her sing. He liked the sound of her voice when she sung.

Time passes by, never thought I'd wind up
One step behind, now I've made my mind up

Today, I'm gonna try a little harder
Gonna make every minute last longer
Gonna learn to forgive and forget
'Cause we don't have long, gonna make the most of it

Today, I'm gonna love my enemies
Reach out to somebody who needs me
Make a change, make the world a better place
'Cause tomorrow could be one day too late
One day too late, one day too late

Everyone fell silent as they listened to Jessica sing. It was as if she was a humanistic angel. Her voice singing the song flawlessly.

Tick tock, hear my life pass by
I can't erase and I can't rewind
Of all the things I regret the most I do
Wish I'd spent more time with you

Here's my chance for a new beginning
I saved the best for a better ending
In the end I'll make it up to you
You'll see, you'll get the very best of me

After Jessica finished singing the song, everyone in the area cheered. Red stuck his thumb and index fingers in his mouth as he whistled loudly. Jessica returned the microphone to the elderly man and quickly rushed back to her seat. Grabbing her things.

"I'm ready to go, are you?" Jessica whispered as she looked at him.

Red blinked as he looked at her. "What?"

"If we stay here any longer it'll be morning by the time we leave," she told him as Thunder jumped onto her shoulder. "We need to leave before then because we can't let them see Arceus. Now lets go."

With that, Jessica quickly slipped out of the pavilion. Red quickly gathered his things and followed after her. Red's Pikachu running after them. Red's eyes kept examining Jessica's profile every once in a while as they rushed out of sight from everyone.

Arceus, Jessica thought as she rushed to the beach. We're ready to head back to Pallet Town, now.

The moment they reached the shoreline, Arceus was waiting for them on the water's surface. Jessica and Red quickly climbed onto Arceus's back and he swam off away from the island. Heading back towards the direction of Kanto. Heading specifically for Pallet Town.

Jessica had another dream that night.

In the dream, Jessica was standing in a cavern. The cavern was completely filled with a frigid mist. A large gray and ice blue dragon walking through the tunnels of the cavern. After a while of watching the Pokemon walk through the cave, it stopped and looked straight at Jessica.

It stood there for a long moment, staring at her. After what seemed like minutes, the Pokemon then looked away and disappeared deeper into the cave. Jessica's vision fading into blackness as she watched the Pokemon walk off.

"I see you're finally awake," Mamoru said as he watched Jessica come down the stairs. Now wearing her normal clothes of holy jeans and a black tank top.

Jessica smiled as she looked at him. "Good morning, Umpa," she said enthusiastically as she walked over to him. "Sorry I slept in. I didn't even remember making it home."

"That's because you technically didn't walk through the door," Mamoru informed her before taking a drink of his coffee. "That large Pokemon you rode to the Orange Islands on brought you to the front door late last night and rang the doorbell to get my attention. I opened the door just in time to see the Pokemon rush off. Red is sleeping in the guest room."

Jessica blinked as she looked at him. "Really?"

Mamoru nodded. "By the way, Professor Oak said he wanted to talk to both you and Red the moment you two got back."

"Well, I better go wake Red up, then, so we don't keep the professor waiting," Jessica said as she went to walk to the guest bedroom to wake Red up.

"Before you do, Jessica," Mamoru called out, making Jessica stop and turn to look at him, "there's something I want to give you."

Jessica blinked as she looked at him and walked over to the kitchen table. "What is it?"

Mamoru slid a small purple velvet box toward her. "This was your mother's," he explained. "I'm sure she'd want you to have it."

Jessica looked at the small box with astonishment before slowly opening it. Inside the box, resting on purple silk, was a strange silver object in the shape of wings. Jessica slowly picked up the small silver object in her hand. Looking at it with puzzlement.

"What is it?" she asked as she looked at her uncle with bewilderment.

"Your mother said it was called a Silver Wing," Mamoru answered as he looked at her. "She really didn't explain it to me. But it's apparently a very important item. Make sure you don't lose it."

Jessica nodded as she looked back down at the small object, cupping it in her hands. "I won't," she assured him.

"Good," Mamoru said with a smile. "Now go wake up Red and get going. I'm sure Professor Oak wants to see you two before it gets late."

Jessica placed the Silver Wing back into the purple box and placed the box in her bag. Once the object was safely placed in her bag, Jessica walked to the guest bedroom and woke Red up. After they gathered their things, they made their way towards Professor Oak's lab.

"Ah! Just the two people I wanted to see," Professor Oak said when he opened up the door to his lab. He then stepped aside to allow Red and Jessica inside. "Come on in."

Jessica and Red stepped inside the lab and Professor Oak closed the door.

"You wanted to see us, Professor?" Jessica asked as she looked at him.

"Yes," Professor Oak answered as he walked over to a table. Picking up the two Pokedexs that were on the table and handing one to both Red and Jessica. "These are for you. They're a gift from my friend Professor Elm in New Bark Town in Johto."

Jessica and Red blinked in confusion as they slowly took the Pokedex from Professor Oak.

"I want you two to go to Johto and explore the many different species of Pokemon that exist there." Professor Oak looked to Jessica, specifically. "There are also more Legendary Pokemon to be found there."

Jessica's eyes widened the moment she heard Professor Oak say "Legendary Pokemon".

There was more than just the ones she already found.

Her path was becoming longer than she had ever thought it could be.
