Dragon Age Info: The Draken Culture
For my Dragon Age Fanfiction stories
By: Jessica Foltz

Because of what they are, all Draken are mages (even the Dwarf-Drakens, even though theirs is more chaotic and they can't really control it, very well, because of their dwarven blood). However, due to their Draken blood, they are immune to a demon’s temptations, and thus are unable to be possessed. Whenever asked about this sort of thing, they use the analogy that humans and elves who are mages are “baths with water”, while a Draken are “baths with sand”. Over time some of these mages learn how to not only attack with their spells, but also attack using weapons. Thus becoming what is known as an “Arcane Warrior”. Not ever Draken chooses to become an Arcane Warrior, but when it comes right down to it, they are all mages, and strike with a lethal and deadly precision and accuracy that would make them appear like assassins.

They do believe in a form of a higher being, which dragons, themselves, believe in, as well--including the Old Gods. Known as the “All Father”. During the time Andraste was alive, Sathera had made her interpret the dreams she would have throughout her life as visions of this particular higher being, which Andraste came to call “The Maker”, and several others followed suit shortly after. However, it all remains the same, in the end. Even if the Chantry has changed the original intentions behind what Andraste’s words were.

As a people, they do still have a nobility system, however, they still view each other as equals in terms of the fact that they all can bleed and die just as easily as anyone else in their race. They can be viewed as “superhuman” to those who are not Draken or even dragon, but they technically aren’t. They’re just tougher to take down. Nothing more. So you will even tend to see the leaders fighting alongside their peasants. Willing to throw their life to protect each other just as much as anyone else.

Their clothing, armor, and weapons all come from that of the dragons. Harvested when a dragon dies. The scales are used to make the clothes and the armor, while the bones are used to create their weapons. There are weapon smiths and armor smiths who can create such weapons and armor, sure, but none can craft it as well as a Draken can. As they have done the trade far longer than anyone else has.

As a separate race from the others, they do have their own language, which is technically shared with the dragons. They all--dragon or Draken--call the language “Drakenic”. And it is very difficult to learn for those who have not lived around it. However, if you take the time, and have the patience, anyone can technically learn it, just as any other language in existence.

The Draken love to sing, just as dragons do. They have beautiful voices and will occasionally throw parties for almost anything they can come up with, just for an excuse to sing and dance. To inspire the younger generation, a birthday, a holiday, a death, a birth, the list goes on. Any small or big event that can ever be thought of they will throw some kind of special party for.
Alright. Here is my revamped info on the Draken Culture. Providing you a little more insight into just how they act and how they believe. I make them immune to possessions due to the fact that they are half dragon. That way if any of you decide you want to make a fanfiction using my race, you'll have a better understanding of how they are as a people. Because I am revamping my original idea all together, I figured you would want to know the revamped version of the info.

If you do decide to make a Dragon Age fanfiction using my race, please let me know that you are doing so and please credit me for the creation of the race. Thank you.

As before, because actually creating a language is difficult, the "Drakenic" language that will be used is actually the "Draconic" language from Dungeons & Dragons. (I do not own the language in any way, shape, or form. All rights to the creation of the language go to D&D. I am not writing this fanfiction in order to make any kind of profit. It is merely for fun.) I have changed it so that way the language originated from the dragons, and thus all dragons and Drakens speak it. Instead of having two separate languages for both.

Hopefully you enjoy it as much as you did the original idea.^^
